Major Projects Shaping the Future of Estes Park

A Look at Current Construction Around Town

If you've driven through Estes Park recently, you've probably noticed cranes, steel, timber framing, and active construction at several high-profile locations. These projects represent significant investments in the community and are expected to influence tourism, events, and visitor experiences in the years ahead.

Here's a factual look at some of the largest construction projects currently underway.

Stanley Film Center

One of the most anticipated projects in Estes Park is the Stanley Film Center, located on the grounds of The Stanley Hotel.

The facility is being constructed to serve as a year-round destination for film programming, education, and special events. It is designed to complement the Sundance Institute's planned move of the Sundance Film Festival to Boulder beginning in 2027 by providing additional programming and event space connected to the festival and other film-related activities.

Current construction includes:

  • Structural steel installation
  • Concrete and masonry work
  • Elevator tower construction
  • Utility and infrastructure installation

Once completed, the Stanley Film Center is expected to host screenings, educational programming, community events, and film-related activities throughout the year.

Elkhorn Lodge Redevelopment

Construction continues on the redevelopment of the former Elkhorn Lodge property in downtown Estes Park.

Recent progress includes:

  • Foundation work
  • Installation of structural steel
  • Heavy timber roof framing
  • Utility installation
  • Site preparation

The redevelopment represents one of the larger lodging investments in downtown Estes Park in recent years and will add additional accommodations within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and Riverwalk.

Stanley Carousel Building

Adjacent to the newly opened Stanley Chocolate Factory, construction continues on the future home of The Stanley Carousel.

Visible construction progress includes:

  • Structural steel framework
  • Heavy timber roof system
  • Exterior framing
  • Building enclosure work

The carousel building will become another attraction within The Stanley campus, expanding visitor experiences available throughout the property.

Stanley Chocolate Factory

The Stanley Chocolate Factory has recently opened and serves as one of the newest additions to The Stanley campus.

The facility includes:

  • Chocolate production
  • Retail shopping
  • Visitor experiences

Its opening marks another completed phase of the continued redevelopment occurring throughout the Stanley property.

Continued Investment in Estes Park

These projects reflect ongoing investment in Estes Park's tourism and hospitality infrastructure.

Together they represent:

  • New visitor attractions
  • Expanded lodging capacity
  • Additional event space
  • Continued redevelopment of existing properties
  • Long-term investment in the local economy

While construction can temporarily impact traffic and nearby businesses, these projects are intended to enhance Estes Park's offerings for residents and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead

Construction activity is a visible reminder that Estes Park continues to evolve while maintaining the mountain character that makes it unique. As these projects progress, they will add new amenities and experiences for both the local community and visitors from around the world.

We'll continue to share updates as construction advances and these projects move closer to completion.
